Oslo. Norway does not approve the extension of the Schengen area to Bulgaria and Romania. Along with several EU countries, Norwegians do not want to see Bulgaria in the European visa-free space, Russian Radiovesti reports.

The Norwegian society is against the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area and its government considers refusing the accession of the two countries, the Russian source informs.

Norwegian politicians say that otherwise all members of the Schengen area would be flooded by a new crime wave. According to official data released by Eurostat, currently there are 15 EU countries with active Bulgarian and Romanian criminal gangs, which are considered among the most dangerous.

An NGO in Oslo recently decided to start to gather signatures for a petition, after a camp holding 200 illegal Roma immigrants from Romania and Bulgaria was destroyed. The residents of Oslo also submitted a complaint to the local police, complaining about the garbage and possible diseases spread by the Roma.

The protest wave increased in the light of the forthcoming autumn discussion about the Bulgarian and Romanian membership in the Schengen area.

Standard reminds that one year ago, Norway was considering leaving the Schengen Agreement in case of the accession of Bulgaria and Romania due fears of increased crime and begging in the Scandinavian country.
