Merkel: Germany will withdraw all its soldiers from Turkey

Berlin is planning to withdraw all of its troops from Turkey, following Ankara's refusal to grant German parliament members permission to visit staff serving on a Turkish air base, Chancellor Angela Merkel has said.
Turkey has denied German lawmakers access to the the Incirlik air base, where German soliers are serving in a NATO mission targeting Isis in Syria.

Ms Merkel emphasized it was "essential" that Germany's defence committee is able to visit the near 270 troops stationed at the base.
Turkey issued the refusal over the weekend in response to Germany's decision to grant asylum to Turkish soldiers accused by Ankara of participating in last year's failed coup.

Meanwhile, it has become clear that the German government has pulled out its military forces from all NATO missions in the Mediterranean Sea as a result of the western military alliance's involvement in the Libyan conflict.

Angela Merkel has voiced strong opposition to the idea of a military intervention in Libya and has repeatedly called for a peaceful solution to the conflict ahead of this weekend's key regional elections in her country.
