Ex-MEP Mariella Baeva enters prestigious Economist ranking

The Bulgarian Mariella Baeva has been included in a prestigious ranking of the British magazine The Economist and global corporations. The former MEP is among the world's top fifty people defending human rights and social inclusion, the Standart learned.

Mariella Baeva is presented as a former MEP and writer. Other nominees in this category included US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama, Bill Gates, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, the Buddhist leader Dalai Lama, the English Prince Henry, CNN ournalist Christiane Amanpour and others. Mariella Baeva is the only representative of Eastern Europe in the top fifty.

''Of course I am proud and happy of the fact that I'm in this ranking. My joy comes from fulfilling my debt to society, because only those who do this are free'', Baeva said. Malala Yousafzai, who won the Nobel Peace Prize last year, is also on the list.

A year earlier Mariella Baeva proposed Malala receive the Sakharov Freedom of Thought Award, which she did.
