Customs Officers Seize 1,000 Liters of Moonshine near Cherven Bryag

Most of it was stored in plastic containers like these ones.

(October 9, 2017 Sofia) A mobile group of the Central Customs Office Directorate (CCOD) has seized one thousand liters of moonshine hidden on a private property in the town of Cherven Bryag in central northern Bulgaria.


The customs officers carried out a search of the house and the adjacent farm yard on October 5th, 2017 and found out that owner of the property had stashed 1,072 l of a liquid smelling like alcohol.


It was established that 87 liters of the liquid is pure ethanol. The illicitly produced alcohol had been stored in plastic containers of different volume. Most of it was found on the second floor the barn and the rest was in the house's cellar.


The property's owner failed to produce any evidence of paid excise duties on the stored alcohol.


He has been charged with storing illegal liquor. The customs officers are now working to find out who produced the moonshine.
