Bulgaria’s Sports Minister Elected WADA Board Member

Krasen Kralev

(October 31, 2017 Sofia) Bulgaria's Youth and Sports Minister, Krasen Kralev, has been elected a member of the WADA Managing Board through a direct vote held during the latest regular sitting of the Working Group for Sports in Brussels.

Kralev's runner-up is Estonia's Culture and Sports Minister Indrek Saar, who garnered ten votes against thirteen for Kralev.

This has been the first time in WADA's history that a sports minister of a EU member state is elected member of the board through a direct vote.

The vote followed UK's decision to prematurely terminate the mandate of its representative on WADA Managing Board and the three countries that are to take up the rotating EU presidency on Kanuary 1st, 2018 – Bulgaria, Estonia and Austria, failed to reach an agreement on a common nomination.

Kralev's appointment is to be formally approved by COREPER and the EU Foreign Ministers Council.

Kralev's first job as a WADA board member is to organize an international anti-doping seminar in Sofia at the beginning of 2018.

The first siding of the WADA Managing Board that Minister Kralev is going to attend is scheduled for November 15th-16th in Seoul.
