The residents of Benkovski village in the region of Sofia are protesting polluted potable water springs today.
They say the waters of Varbitsa River have been polluted after a spill of waste from the tailing pond at the Erma River.
National broadcaster bTV says the locals have been warned not to drink water from the tap.
Over five hundred residents of Benkovski and the region have signed a petition calling to the local authorities to take appropriate actions, so as to provent future tailing spills.
Meanwhile, the local environment inspection reported that the concentration of tailing in the village's potable water is within the allowed limits.
