Sofia. Archeologists discovered a nearly 8,000 years old marble female statue in excavations of a Neolithic settlement in Slatina, near Sofia. With over 20 cm, he statue was relatively large for its time.
"The statue is an expression of the cult of the Mother Goddess, but is unique because in the Neolithic period it was not typical to create plastic images of marble" explained Prof. Vasil Nikolov, head of the excavation project.
According to the expert, this proves that the ancient inhabitants of Slatina reached a high cultural development.
