Slovenia Stole BG Rakia, Kouneva to Take Care of Pickles
Europeans will drink the Bulgarian "mastika" (pastis), Greeks label it as "ouzo". It might be that we'll sell our elixir only to Russians and Serbs

While Minister of European Affairs Meglena Kuneva is busy visiting cocktail-parties, Slovenians stole the traditional Bulgarian rakia (kind of brandy)
Slovenia has outrun us and managed to patent rakia (grape brandy) in the EU before Bulgaria. The disgraceful fact was made public by Minister of European Affairs Meglena Kouneva after the regular cabinet sitting. Currently the BG experts are trying to negotiate at least the right to preserve the labels with "rakia" spelt in Cyrillic. After the failure with rakia Kouneva has at least to secure a patent for the traditional Bulgarian "tourshia" (pickled vegetable salad), the MPs of the opposition proposed. The government submitted an application to the European Commission to leave "mastika" as a Bulgarian trademark, Kouneva said further. According to her, Bulgaria will have no problems in obtaining a patent for this beverage. The reason is that the Greeks call it "ouzo" and have no claims over the brand.
Pardew: We Did not Denied visa to Daffovska
US Ambassador in Sofia James W. Pardew declined Thursday that Olympic biathlon champion Ekatherina Dafovska was denied a US entry visa. This was announced in a special statement to the media. He explained that the visa was postponed, because the officials from the Consular Department had some questions to ask her. People who want to visit the USA are frequently asked such questions, Mr. Pardew said. As her answers were taken into consideration, it was decided on February 4 that Dafovska to be granted a visa. He defined as imprecise the statement of Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lyubomir Todorov that Ekaterina Dafovska was granted a US entry visa only after intervention by Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Passy.
Russia Agrees with Deployment of NATO Bases in Bulgaria
Russia is ready to accept the deployment of NATO bases in Bulgaria or in Romania but not in Poland and Slovakia, the Baltic republics or in the countries from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), AFP released. The news agency based itself on a high-ranking official from the Russian Ministry of Defence. Moscow reckons that the establishment of NATO bases is acceptable in Bulgaria, for example, to ensure the backup for the operations in Iraq or in Afghanistan.

Court: Chernoy Poses No Threat
Israeli businessman Mikhail Chernoy poses no threat to the security of Bulgaria. The order about his extradition issued by Gen. Atanas Atanassov is not supported by any evidence. The only argument in favor of this act was the proposition Atanassov made to himself during the time when he was officially on leave and didn't have the right to take decisions. His order is invalid. So says the rationale of the Supreme Administrative Court dated Janury 16 for declaring the order null and void. The SAC has finally revoked the order about the extradition of Mikhail Chernoy from Bulgaria. The public, however, has learnt nothing more. Because the Court's motives were confidential. As it always happens, though, what we cannot find out in Bulgaria will be published by the foreign press.
